Hearings Senate Finance Committee February 22; 1:00 PM

Hearings for the Maryland Health Security Act, SB 206, are scheduled for Wednesday, February 22 at 1:00 PM in the Senate Finance Committee.  It helps to have a good turnout of supporters at the hearing to show interest.  Please put the date on your calendar.
We have been asked to limit our testimony to one panel by Senator Pinksy, the bills prime sponsor.  If you have a suggestion for someone you would like to see testify; or know someone with a healthcare story who would be willing to testify before the Senate Finance Committee please get in touch with Eric Naumburg, M.D. (443-562-6562/enaumburg@hotmail.com) .  You can also submit written testimony to the committee (25 copies).

Annual Meeting February 28th; Speaker: Economist Gerald Friedman

The annual meeting of Healthcare-Now Maryland is will take place on February 28th.  Come hear economist Gerald Friedman present highlights of the new economic impact study modeling the Maryland Health Security Act (SB206), a truly universal healthcare system for Maryland.  Jerry Friedman is a Harvard trained economist, head of the economics department at U Mass Amherst.  We started fund raising for this study two years ago and it has come to fruition; thanks to everyone who chipped in by calling and donating.  There will also be a presentation about the new Healthcare is a Human Right Campaign by Todd Cherkis.  Come hear about our plans to hire a grassroots organizer this spring and also how you can help.

Howard County Healthcare-Now! Meeting February 21st

Annapolis Healthcare-Now Meeting, January 17th; 6:30 PM

Tuesday, December 13 6:30-7:30 PM at 49 West Street Coffeehouse, Annapolis
We have not met in a while. It is time to reactivate ourselves.
Since our last meeting in Annapolis lots has been happening.
Agenda will include an update on our efforts to hire a full-time organizer, status of economic impact study, and fundraising.
The Maryland Health Security Act will be reintroduced in January. I have brochures and we can discuss lobbying and other strategies.
Also, I will have T-shirts and “Health Care is a Human Right” buttons and bumper stickers.
