Healthcare-Now has teach-in at Occupy Baltimore

November 15, 2011

Members of Healthcare-Now! of Maryland presented a teach-in at McKeldin Square to “Occupy Baltimore” on Friday November 11th.  Dr. Eric Naumburg spoke about the current poor state of healthcare delivery in Maryland and nationally; noted that a new economic study on the effects of single payer in Maryland, by Gerald Friedman, Chairman of Economics at University of Massachusetts, will be coming out soon.  Dr. Ritika Goel, Canadian Family Physician, spoke about how the universal healthcare system works in her country.   There was a lively response and we were invited back to do more teach-in’s.

Healthcare-Now! Maryland is formulating a new campaign strategy based on the principles of universality, equity in access, equity in financing, transparency, accountability and participation.  Simply put healthcare should be a public good like the police and the fire department.  Getting Wall Street out of healthcare is the only way to create a healthcare system that satisfies these principles.
